INTRO TO ICE CLIMBING SUNDAY JANUARY 26th 7A-10A
THIS CLINIC IS GEARED TOWARD THOSE TOTALLY NEW TO THE SPORT AND ALSO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN CLIMBING FOR A SEASON OR TWO. THE CLINIC IS HELD PRIOR TO OUR NORMAL CLIMBING HOURS FROM 7AM-10AM
PARTICIPANTS WILL BE WORKING ON AND GETTING FEEDBACK FROM AN INSTRUCTOR FOR:
Proper technique for axe swinging
Proper kick technique
Ideal ice climbing movements
How to read ice and ideal placements
QUALIFICATIONS
Due to the nature of this class you need a certain knowledge base prior to this type of clinic. Prior climbing experience: Figure 8 Knot & proper belay techniques. These can be learned at your local rock climbing gym.These skills can be taught at the clinic, but majority will be focused on the climbing itself. Guide ratio is 1-4
GEAR
You will need your own gear in order to participate in the class. Ice Climbing specific gear (Helmet, Ice Tools, Crampons, Harness, and Mountaineering Boots) can be rented from Peabody’s ($5 per item)). If you need to rent please reserve prior to the event to assure we have gear for you and show up 20 minutes prior to get outfitted. Plan to be outside the majority of the day so please dress appropriately (winter jacket, snow pants, hats, gloves, etc).
WEATHER
Due to the nature of ice climbing, the clinic is very weather dependent. If case of unsafe conditions, the event will be canceled at least two days prior.
